ABC’s Linsey Davis Admits Trump Fact-Check Was Due to CNN Leaving His Statements ‘Dangling’ During First Debate

ABC News anchor Linsey Davis admitted in a post-debate interview that her fact-checking of former President Trump was influenced by the previous CNN debate that went disastrously for President Biden.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Davis said she wanted to address concerns that Trump’s statements could be allowed to “hang in the air” without being challenged by his opponent or moderators, as was the case during the Trump-Biden debate on CNN in June.

“Davis, wearing rose-colored glasses as he spoke to The Times over breakfast at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia, said the decision to try to correct the candidates was a response to the June 27 CNN debate between Trump and President Biden, whose poor performance led to his withdrawal from the race,” the Times reported.

“People were concerned that the statements would be left hanging and not challenged by candidate Biden, at the time, or by the moderators,” Davis told the outlet Wednesday morning.

The Los Angeles Times raved about Davis in its profile, calling her a “rising star” who “kept Trump in the loop.”

In a moment that went viral, Davis sternly told Trump that “there is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it is born,” after Trump invoked former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s remarks in 2019 suggesting that a living baby could be killed after birth, following a “discussion” between the doctor and the mother.

As liberals celebrated the event, a pro-life group demanded a correction from ABC News, saying Davis’ comments were “100 percent inaccurate.”

Since the debate, both Muir and Davis have been criticized by critics for their bias toward Vice President Kamala Harris. The debate moderators fact-checked Trump five times and failed to correct Harris once Tuesday night.

Trump also decried bias among ABC moderators, telling “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday: “It was three to one. It was a rigged deal, as I had suspected.”

Despite the lack of fact-checking regarding Harris, Davis insisted that his team intended to fact-check both candidates throughout the evening.

The Times said: “With co-moderator David Muir, Davis had studied hours of campaign rallies and interviews to prepare for the highly anticipated event at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and was ready to counter the candidates’ most egregious statements.”

Davis countered the bias accusations by saying she and Muir could not detect all the false statements, the Times reported, without noting that none of Harris’ incorrect statements received a reprimand.

Elsewhere in the article, the outlet noted how Davis simply ignored criticism that she was helping Harris, reporting that she had shut down her social media accounts.

“There’s a stereotype that I’m very aware of: I can’t cover this moment impartially. And anonymous people on Instagram remind me of that every day,” Davis said.
