Abbott grants pardon to Daniel Perry for killing of Black Lives Matter protester

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday he was pardoning Daniel Perry, the former Army sergeant convicted of the fatal shooting of a protester during a Black Lives Matter march, after a review board recommended his release from prison.

“Texas has one of the strictest ‘Stand Your Ground’ self-defense laws that cannot be overturned by a jury or a progressive district attorney,” he said in a statement. “I thank the Commission for its thorough investigation and agree with its recommendation for clemency.”
