AAP protests against the cricket match in India-Pakistan; Warn Delhi’s clubs against screening

The AAM AADMI party (AAP) protested on Saturday against the next cricket match in India-Pakistan, with its chief of the Delhi unit, Sarabh Bharadwaj, accusing the center of “humiliating” the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. There was no immediate reaction available from the government or the BJP.

AAP national official Arvind Kejriwal, questioned the decision to move forward with the shock scheduled for Sunday. “What is the need for the Prime Minister to organize a match with Pakistan? The whole country says that this match should not happen. So why is this match organized?” Kejriwal said in a post in Hindi on X. “Is it also under pressure from Trump? How much are you going to tilt yourself against Trump?” He added.

Bharadwaj underlined an article on social networks, shared by Pakistani cricket players, who represented the chief of the Pakistani army Asif Murnir filling the separation of the hair of a woman painted in the Indian tricolor with Vermilion, an image considered as a mocking reference to the Sindoor operation, which was counter-terror of India.
“This is a gross humiliation of our women who lost their husbands during the attack on Pahalgam, but our central leadership goes ahead with the Indian-Pakistan cricket match,” said Bharadwaj at a press conference. He warned that his party workers “expose” clubs, pubs and restaurants to project the match, to stop people to go to these points of sale “.

The leader of the AAP, as well as the party workers, also burned an effigy symbolizing the Pakistani players. Later, in an article on X in Hindi, Bharadwaj said: “Pakistan cricket players make fun of our widows in such a dirty and disgusting way, and we will play cricket with them. Honest in the BJP government.” The boycott calls for cricket ties with Pakistan have become stronger since the Pahalgam attack on April 22 during which 26 people, mainly tourists, were shot dead by terrorists.

According to the new Government sports policy, India will not play a bilateral competition against Pakistan, but will continue to face them in multilateral tournaments such as the current Asian Cup and ICC events.
