Some MPs from Gujarat’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are reportedly in touch with the BJP which is expected to form its government in the state for the seventh consecutive term, sources said.

AAP MP Bhupat Bhayani, who won Assembly elections in Visavadar constituency in Junagadh district, however, refuted reports that he had switched sides.

Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP was aiming for a grand entrance into the political landscape of Gujarat with this election, but the party only managed to win five seats.

During the campaign, AAP positioned itself as the only challenger to BJP. The results, however, showed that the party was more successful in splitting opposition votes and helping the BJP to a historic victory.

The BJP won 156 of a total of 182 seats, the best tally of seats for any political party in Gujarat’s electoral history, breaking the 37-year-old Congress record of 149 seats in the 1985 elections. now, the BJP’s best seat tally was 127 in the 2002 polls.

Congress won 17 seats in the elections.
