James Maddison would be “a huge success” at Newcastle United, according to Alan Brazil.
The Leicester City star has been the subject of a £40m bid from the Magpies in recent days as Eddie Howe looks to add vital quality to his side at St James’ Park.
The Foxes are clearly reluctant to lose one of their best players this summer, rejecting Newcastle’s offer for the player who is believed to be valued at around £60million.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was asked about Maddison’s situation after the club’s pre-season friendly against Sevilla, insisting the 25-year-old is an integral part of his plans.
He said: “He is still very playful here.
“Naturally, players are sought after because they are talents.
“You see his performance, you see how happy he is and he’s not a player we want to sell. It’s not for me to put ratings on players, it’s not on my side , but that might just cover three-quarters of his left leg, that price. He’s a top player.”
With Newcastle still very interested, speculation will continue to surround the player with Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist insisting he would be a great fit for the Magpies.

Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast, Brazil said: “He would be a good signing, don’t worry about that. He’s a top player.
“He seems to be overlooked in the England setup, but when he’s on his game his assists are fantastic and he scores goals.
“Without a doubt he would be a huge success at Newcastle.”
Ally McCoist added: “I couldn’t agree more.
“I love him. He’s a player I really like, but I also think Brendan Rodgers is absolutely right when he suggests that £40m isn’t enough.
“I have to say that I agree with him.”
