Walnut Creek – A teenager who attacked a classmate with a knife on campus was sentenced to five years on a secure youth processing center, according to the judicial archives.
The adolescent did not argue any competitions for kidnapping as part of the 2023 attack on a student at the ninth -year Northgate high school. He was initially accused of chaos and attempted murder, after allegedly cutting off the throat, the face and arm of a girl while carrying a mask of “cry” and waiting for a isolated part of the campus, police announced at the time.
The case was continued in court for minors, but details on its result were made public through a decision of the 18 -page court of appeal which confirms the sentence of the boys. The hearing indicates that the boy suffers from an autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
After the attack – which was arrested by campus security – the authorities found a “killing list” appoint three people to the boy’s home, according to the judicial archives. He was 14 years old at the time. Since then, there has been an incident where the staff of Juvenile Hall found a drawing that he had made of a person covered with blood, holding a knife and smiling. Apart from that, he “did well” in detention, according to the decision of the Court of Appeal.
A judge sentenced him to a five -year suspension in a secure treatment center after his guilt plea in January 2024, according to the judicial archives. By making the decision, the judge rejected the more severe and indulgent alternatives, including correctional establishments and residential treatment houses.
On appeal, the boy urged the judges of appeal to reject the sentence and to conclude that the Superior Court “abused his discretionary power”. But the unanimous and 3-0 decision concludes that the judge’s decision was “supported by the file” and gives him access to “continuous management of therapy and medication management, and … educational needs”.
