A teenager killed in a shark attack near Brisbane

A teenager died after being attacked by a shark in Queensland, Australia.

Paramedical paramedics responded to the information according to which a “serious shark bite incident” in Woorim Beach, just north of Brisbane, around 4:45 pm local time (06:45 GMT) on Monday, the ambulance service of Queensland wrote on X.

The police confirmed that the girl had suffered potentially fatal injuries and died shortly after 5:00 p.m. Australian Media reports that she was 17 years old.

The waters around the beach house many sharks, but the attack occurred near the shore in the popular surfing site, which has measures to protect against sharks.

Police confirmed that the girl had swam in the waters off the island of Bribie – right next to the continent, on which is Woorim beach – when she was attacked by the shark, including the species has not been identified.

The ambulance service of Queensland confirmed that the victim had suffered deadly injuries at his upper body.

She was bitten on the arm about 100 meters from Shore, Australian media reports.

Christopher Potter arrived at the beach shortly after the attack. He told ABC News: “There are a lot of swimming groups that swim here in the morning and in the afternoon.

“It is known that there are a lot of sharks around Bribie, but this close to shore is always a shock.”

The waters near the beach are protected from streams – barrels anchored at the seabed which have bait hooks to catch sharks that are too close.

The target species captured in them are then euthanases, while other species are moved and released.

Police said they would prepare a report on Monday incident at the Coroner.

This is the second death of sharks in the waters of Australia this year, after the surfer launches Appleby was killed off the coast of South Australia on January 2.

The last deadly attack in the Grand Brisbane region occurred in 2006, when Sarah, 21, was killed while swimming with friends.

The attacks of sharks in Queensland “rarely occur and most of the shark species do not pose a risk for people,” according to the website of the government of the state.
