A teenager was charged on Friday May 9, murder and two chiefs of assault with a deadly weapon for having allegedly stabbed another student to death during a fight near the Santa Ana high school earlier this week and injuring two others, the authorities announced.
Armando Morales, 14, of Santa Ana, has tried to help two friends involved in the fight when he was fatally stabbed, said Natalie Officer Garcia, Santa Ana police spokesman on Friday.
Morales would not be a member of a gang, she said, unlike the two friends and the pair of suspects.
On Wednesday afternoon, on May 7, shortly after school let out, several students fought in an adjacent parking lot which degenerated when a 15-year-old suspect has pulled a knife and stabbed three students, said Garcia.
Garcia said accusations would be against the 15 -year -old woman and that the potential accusations against her brother, who were 17, were still pending.
The fight was one of the students who would be members of rival gangs, but we did not know how many students were initially involved in the fight, said Garcia.
The three victims were taken to the hospital, where Morales died. The DA office said on Friday that Morales had undergone a stab wound at the heart.
The other two victims, aged 15 and 16, had to survive their injuries, police said.
The two suspects turned into police later Wednesday evening on May 7, and were reserved in a minor suspected of murder and attempted murder, said Garcia. The police did not name the minors.
The three victims and the two students attended Santa Ana High.
Police did not find the knife that was used in the attack, said the officer. The 17-year-old suspect has used no weapons, she said.
The police were aware of a mobile phone video that captured at least part of the fight and was looking for the person who took it. Investigators also sought other mobile phones images that may have different angles.
The altercation took place in a parking lot shared with the Lycée and the primary school Martin R. Heninger, said the spokesperson for the Unified School District of Santa Ana, Fermin Leal.
The school district canceled all the activities after school Wednesday following stabs and made a police presence on Thursday and advisers in increased crisis on the campus. At one point, police said they thought the deceased victim was in a gang.
