A tale of two VERY different drunken bank holidays: Oxford students return home from May balls in dresses and tuxedos… while Birmingham revelers brave the cold and eat kebabs as they arrive in city.

Hundreds of Oxford University students took to the city streets early in the morning as they returned home drunk after prestigious balls.

Corpus Christi and Brasenose College held their annual May Ball in Oxford on Saturday, with tickets costing around £120.

With a black-tie dress code, spectators were treated to an evening filled with musical performances, pole dancing, tarot readings, silent discos and even a student-run casino.

While Oxford students enjoyed a series of posh perks at their balls, revelers across the country also made the most of the May bank holiday weekend – even if their celebrations didn’t require black tie or long dresses.

Groups of casual-looking revelers were seen enjoying their greasy late-night snacks in Birmingham as they took on the city this bank holiday weekend.

Some generous Oxford students were carrying their partners through the streets after they had clearly spent all night dancing on their heels.

Celebrations in Oxford ended at 5am on Sunday morning, leaving students in formal wear to wander the streets.

Partygoers across the country make the most of the May bank holiday weekend by spending their evenings drinking in bars and clubs.

In Blackpool, revelers were seen dressed up to mark the occasion.

Others in Leeds took part in the Otley Run – a 17-stop pub crawl which serves as a rite of passage for students studying in Leeds.

Meanwhile, Oxford’s glamorous partygoers headed home at 5am, with some choosing to stroll around the iconic Radcliffe Camera, a baroque-style library built in the 18th century.

Men dressed in tuxedos were seen carrying their partners with sore feet home while others were forced to walk the cobbled streets in their heels.

Some of the guests leaving the Oxford balls were seen with large boxes of cupcakes, handing them out to their fellow students as a morning treat.

Oxford students could purchase more expensive tickets to May balls, giving them access to a three-course meal and wine before the party began.

Although Oxford balls are glamorous, they have recently been criticized for charging students £446 per ticket.

The Corpus Christi May Ball chose a Greek mythology theme while Brasenose opted for cabaret.

Brasenose College, founded in 1509, was also celebrating 50 years of admitting women.

The organizers of the ball chose to mark the anniversary by inviting guests to make a donation to the Malala Fund, a charity founded by Malala Yousafzi, winner of the Novel Peace Prize and Oxford alumna, which campaigns for education of girls.

Students at the prom were treated to a variety of food trucks offering paella, pizza, and cakes until 5 a.m.

They could also choose from a selection of themed cocktails, including the Green Fairy which included vodka, melon liqueur, lime and gum.

A hookah bar was available to all students who wanted to smoke.
