A school in California co -founded the wife of Mark Zuckerberg who defended the values of closing next year after a decade of operation.
Primary school, a private school without tuition fees with locations in East Palo Alto and East Bay, California, closes its doors at the end of the 2025-2026 school year, he said in an advertisement on his website. He was co -founded by Priscilla Chan and the educator Meredith Liu and opened his first location in 2016. Liu died in 2023.
The school said that the decision to close had been taken “after many deliberations”.
“It was a very difficult decision, and we are committed to ensuring a thoughtful and united transition for students and families over the next year,” said the announcement.
The school served hundreds of students as young as one year at the age of college.
The Chan Zuckerberg initiative, the philanthropic organization focused on Chan and Zuckerberg sciences, will spend $ 50 million in the coming years in school communities to support the transition, including through 529 savings plans for students and transition specialists for families.
The school website highlights its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, which have recently been canceled in Zuckerberg companies.
The Chan Zuckerberg initiative told staff in February that it ended its dei efforts “given the regulatory and legal landscape” after initially assured the staff that he would remain attached to Dei, the Guardian reported.
In January, Meta ended its own Dei programs, also quoting “the changing legal and political landscape”.
The movements could report other efforts from Zuckerbergs to stay on the right side of the Trump administration for his second term, especially after Trump frequently castigated Zuckerberg, Meta and Big Tech more widely during his first four years in the White House.
Meta was one of the first companies to donate $ 1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund this time, and Zuckerberg and Chan were among the billionaire elites of the “technological broligarchy” which were before the inauguration of Trump. Meta was also one of the many corporate sponsors of the recent Easter Easter Roll of the White House.
A primary school spokesman refused to comment beyond what was published on his website.
