A police officer on leave from San Francisco was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence following a Saturday morning car accident which made five people injured.
The collision with two vehicles occurred around 2 am at the Sunset Boulevard and Rivera Street, according to a press release from the San Francisco Police Service.
The victim’s vehicle had three adult occupants who were taken to the hospital. One has potentially deadly injuries, while the other two have injuries that do not put life in life, according to SFPD.
Ryan Kwong, a resident of San Francisco, who had recently trained in the field, was identified as the driver of the vehicle and suspected of having caused the collision. Police said that he would have led under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
He and a passenger in the same car were taken to the hospital with injuries that do not bring their life to life.
Kwong was arrested and reserved in San Francisco County prison.
In a press release, outgoing police chief Bill Scott called the incident as “incredibly tragic” and that his “heart goes to injured victims”.
“We will do everything in our power to guarantee that justice is done in this case. No one is above the law, and our officers know that they should obey the law, as well as our strict conduct code even in detention,” said Scott.
Tracy McCray, president of the SAN Francisco Police Officers Association, said in a statement that the union prayed for the full recovery of the victims. The union does not provide legal support to incidents that occur in service, said McCray. The union represents the officers of the department
“There is no excuse for driving driving, in particular for the police. If the allegations are true, it should be fully responsible for its actions and the harm it has caused,” said McCray.
The police said that the investigation was underway and asked anyone with information to contact the SFPD at (415) 575-4444. Advice can be sent by SMS to TIP411 and should start with “SFPD”.
