In what looks like a scene straight out of the Netflix thriller series Money Heist, Chile recently witnessed money raining down its highway. No, this is not the plot of a Hollywood project, but surprisingly a reality. A video showing money raining down the highway in Chile has drawn all the attention, after thieves threw a bag with cash on the road during a police car chase, sinking money on the highway. As the video makes rounds the internet, it surely defies the adage that money doesn’t lie on the roads. Despite their tactics, the six suspects could not escape the sight of the cops and were eventually arrested in Santiago de Chile. The act was captured on CCTV and came to light after ANews’ Twitter page shared it online.
While sharing the video, the Twitter user wrote in the caption, “A violent store robbery ended in a police car chase, money raining down a highway and six suspects arrested in Santiago. , in Chile”. According to a report by the New York Post, the incident took place in the town of Pudahuel. The now-viral video opens on a busy highway, when a high-speed blue Chevrolet, chased by two cop vehicles, drops a black bag full of cash onto the road. In an effort to flee from the cops, the thieves dropped the bag with its zipper open rolling the cash down the road. At this precise moment and in the heat of the moment, one of the police cars can be seen running over the bag, tearing it up and spilling the money on the road. As one car continued its pursuit, the other stopped as cops came down the road to collect the notes.
According to media reports, thieves raided a gambling hall and fled after stealing the money and threatening an employee with a gun. But as soon as the municipal police received the information about it, they started chasing the thieves. Their blue vehicle was reportedly followed by cops through different routes, which eventually led the robbers to the North Shore Highway. As soon as they hit the highway, the robbers set the scene for the movie after throwing the bag full of looted cash onto the road. According to a BBC report, the looters attempted to steal 10 million Chilean pesos, or $10,300, while Skynews reported the amount stolen was worth $60,000. Later the money was recovered by the cops and they managed to arrest six people.
