A new venture capital supergroup forms

Startups are not turn away from major projects. That’s my takeaway from the announcement that The Browser Company’s Arc browser is now generally available to Windows users, just as Island raised massive capital for its business-oriented browsing tool. It’s very encouraging to see startups tackling the core pieces of technology and not just the applications at the top of platforms.

Of course, Chromium still reigns supreme, but turning that horse around might take a while.

Elsewhere in Startup Land this week on Equity, we explored Chowdeck’s $2.5 million seed round. This is a Nigerian company that is experiencing impressive growth with its food delivery business in a particularly difficult market. Keep an eye on this as Nigeria is a big market and no company there has locked down their delivery business. Yet, at least.

We also looked at Corelight’s new $150 million fundraising round, which is a good takeaway given its valuation and revenue growth.

On the venture capital side, we talked about two stories: first, Intuition’s bet on the consumer market is particularly interesting. From Paris, the fund is betting that going against the grain of B2B SaaS discourse is the best way to make the most money. Second, we’re seeing the formation of a new venture capital supergroup: Axios reports that investors from a16z, Bessemer and Index are forming a new company.
