At the Sisaket Thai restaurant recently opened in Martinez, the owners thatchakon and Bua Yaiduang hope to reproduce the success of their first restaurant, Bua Thai Kitchen in Albany.
The Yaiduangs moved to the United States from Thailand in 2002. Thatchakon wanted to take advantage of his work experience in a hotel restaurant in Bangkok and bring him to East Bay, where he and his wife, Bua, opened Bua Thai Kitchen.
Bua Thai was a great success, with 4.6 stars on Google and customers renting the versatility of the menu, in particular noodle dishes.
When Ginger Thai closed in Martinez earlier this year, the Yaiduangs decided to take control of the space and bring all of their Bua Thai menu to a second location.
“It’s an authentic Thai cuisine,” said Thatchakon. “I come from northeast of Thailand, so it’s northeast, a mixture of spicy and sour meat.”
In the new location, the most popular dish was the lamb curry ($ 20), which has tender lamb pieces cooked with potatoes, carrots and yellow onions. And there is the Curry Massaman ($ 20), which is slightly different from a curry of traditional peanut butter in that it is mixed with peanuts and red curry.
The Coconut Thai ($ 23) was a popular dish in Bangkok that they encourage customers to try if they are looking for something new.
“We add coconut meat and milk, blowing it up together and that makes a nice mixture of sweet and acidic and tampering flavors of tamarin,” he said.
Despite the prices affecting the cost of imports, Thatchakon said that he did not plan to increase prices in either Thai restaurants.
“This increases the cost of spices a little,” he said. “We also have local sellers in Stockton and Fresno, where the weather is warmer and they can grow Thai spices, so that does not have too much impact on.”
Thatchakon says that Sisaket Thai was excited during lunch hours and that customers are driving from Pleasant Hill, Concord, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek to have a taste. The new place has a 4.9 stars tidy on Google.
“People ask us to open another place in Pittsburg,” he said. “I said,” Let me do it first, we don’t want to rush it. “
