Coastal towns have plenty of charm, and Rhode Island has one of the best in the country, according to USA today readers.

Newport was named one of the 10 Best Small Coastal Cities in America by USA today readers Friday, as part of its 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2024. The Rhode Island city ranked No. 6 on the list.

Here’s what USA today wrote of Newport:

This Rhode Island town has something for everyone, from breweries and wineries to regattas and Gilded Age mansions – and that’s just the beginning. Go paddleboarding or sailing, visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame, take a hike along Cliff Walk with beautiful views of the ocean, or just stroll downtown for a bite to eat and do souvenir purchases.

The No. 1 small coastal town in America is Stuart, Florida, according to the publication, which is part of Florida’s Treasure Coast.

Another Rhode Island destination has been recognized by USA today readers: Wickford has been named the second best historic town in America. The #1 historic city is Ludington, Michigan.
