A line of strong storms arrives Thursday

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A storm system is approaching the Tampa Bay area from the west. The line of storms will arrive Thursday.

Here’s what to expect:

THURSDAY MORNING

Most of the Tampa Bay area is expected to get to work and school before the storms arrive. It will be wet and windy at sunrise. The first storms arrive around 9 a.m.

THURSDAY NOON

The line of storms tracks south through Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties between 9 a.m. and noon. Storms arrive in the I-4 region around lunchtime and persist through mid-afternoon.

The line of storms has the potential to produce severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center placed areas along and north of I-4 at a slight risk for severe weather. This represents a 2 out of 5 for threat risk.

The biggest concern is damaging wind gusts, but an isolated tornado is possible. The threat of severe weather diminishes as the front advances further south.

Although the risk of flooding is low due to showers, some coastal flooding at high tide is possible. Otherwise, precipitation amounts will vary from 2.5 inches in the north to just half an inch further south.

THURSDAY EVENING

The front moves into South Florida before sunset and drier air arrives. The humidity drops and the clouds dissipate quickly.

FRIDAY

Mostly sunny skies are expected with temperatures slightly below average in the mid 70s.
