A hilarious and painful moment at the Canadian Open saw PGA Tour star Adam Hadwin brutally taken out by an overzealous security guard for celebrating a friend’s victory.

The best golfers are apparently difficult to identify.

World number. 1 Scottie Scheffler was recently arrested by Louisville police after attempting to enter Valhalla Golf Club in heavy traffic during the recent PGA Championship.

A year earlier, at the RBC Canadian Open, Adam Hadwin was stopped by a security guard on the 18th hole because he was mistaken for a fan breaking the law.

The then world number 75 rushed onto the green to celebrate with fellow Canadian Nick Taylor, who had just beaten Tommy Fleetwood in a dramatic play-off with a 72-foot eagle putt.

Taylor’s victory – which earned him $1.62 million (£1.29 million) in prize money – was the first by a Canadian at the Canadian Open since 1954.

Friends, players and fellow Canadians rejoiced as Hadwin ran onto the green to splash champagne in Taylor’s direction.

But a security guard mistook the PGA Tour golfer for a random spectator and unceremoniously threw him on his butt on the green.

Taylor’s caddy was one of the first to realize the mistake and a number of people on the course jumped to Hadwin’s aid.

Tournament director Bryan Crawford told CNN that the security guard “did not immediately recognize” Hadwin and the other Canadian players who rushed onto the green to celebrate with Taylor.

“The security guard was doing his job and acting in the moment, amid a wave of excitement and celebration on the green after one of the most iconic moments in Canadian sport,” Taylor said.

“We are pleased with how both sides quickly rectified the misunderstanding and seized the opportunity.”

“Out of the corner of my eye I saw he made a nice tackle there,” Taylor added.

“I hope he’s okay. He was up when I saw him later, so I hope he doesn’t wake up tomorrow morning with broken ribs or anything.

Luckily, the 36-year-old was unharmed and he even joked about the incident afterwards, tweeting a photo of the takedown with the caption @ “Put it in the Louvre!”

He even changed his profile picture and header to an image of the incident and retweeted a Golf Canada official who had written: “Here’s the bottle, and it’s going to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.” »

Many other players also saw the funny side, including Tyrell Hatton, who wrote on social media: “Gutted for Tommy but what a way to win your national open! Crazy scenes! Praying for Adam Hadwin, what a tackle.

Hadwin’s wife, Jessica, also playfully tweeted a meme that read, “Call my lawyer on the phone!” and she then added, “Sorry to leave you all hanging, I had to get the little one ready for bed.

“I’m pleased to report that @ahadwingolf is still part of the land of the living and in true Canadian form, has apologized to the security guard for being tackled.”

The 2024 RBC Canadian Open begins this week at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario.

Hadwin, the current world number. 55 years old, would have hoped to do better in this year’s tournament.

Unfortunately, his bad luck at the Canadian Open seems to have continued.

This week, the winner of the 2017 Valspar Championship complained on social media about being separated from his clubs by Air Canada.

“I know most of you feel the same way I do right now when airlines make mistakes,” Hadwin wrote before revealing his equipment was stuck in Denver.

“Been dealing with @AirCanada all day trying to get me out of Denver clubs. I was told one thing only to have another happen. At this point, they’ve been sitting in Denver for 20 hours and not getting there. »

He later revealed that his clubs were taking a separate flight to Toronto.

“On another flight to Toronto. Unacceptable. It’s not like Denver and Toronto are far apart. The airlines need to do better.”
