The siege of the Republican New Mexico Party in Albuquerque was damaged early Sunday morning in what the party described as a “deliberate criminal fire act”.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue confirmed that she had been sent to the party’s headquarters just before 6 am for a report on a structure fire, which was mastered within five minutes. No injury to civilians or firefighters have been reported.
The fire burned the entrance to the seat and left smoke damage throughout the building, Lieutenant Jason Fejer, spokesperson for the fire service, said on Sunday.
He confirmed that the ministry, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives were investigating the fire as an act of criminal fire.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that she was investigating, but said that she could not provide additional details because the investigation was underway. ATF did not immediately respond to requests for information on Sunday.
The Albuquerque police service confirmed that the federal authorities were investigating but had not provided additional information, especially if arrests had been processed.
In a press release, the Republican New Mexico party said that the fire was “not an isolated incident” and was accompanied by letters painted by spray “Ice = KKK”.
In recent months, ICE, US Immigration and Customs, has deployed agents across the country to achieve what the Trump administration has described as a new and more aggressive effort to target illegal immigration and to deliver a key campaign commitment to make mass deportations.
The Democratic Party of New Mexico said on Sunday that he had condemned “all vandalism to the Republican Party of New Mexico.
“We firmly maintain that this type of act has absolutely no place in our democracy, and that peaceful discourse and organization are the only ways to approach political differences in our country,” added the State Democratic Party. “We hope that anyone is responsible will be found and held responsible.”
Amy Barela, president of the Republican Party of New Mexico, said on Sunday that the alarm system at the party’s headquarters had left around 1 a.m., about four hours before the fire.
There had been a distinct threat of bomb and other acts of vandalism in recent years, she said.
A former republican candidate in the House of Representatives of New Mexico this month was found guilty of hiring people to shoot the houses of Albuquerque Democrats in 2022 and 2023.
“We completely condemn violence,” said Barela. “No matter where it comes from.”
The party was “deeply relieved that no one was injured in what could have been a tragic and deadly attack,” she said.
