A dangerous weather warning shows an increased threat to sneakers

Beach lovers in the Bay region should be aware of potentially dangerous conditions along the coast until at least on Monday, warns the National Weather Service.

There is an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong tear currents on the beaches along all the beaches on the Pacific coast due to “a moderate period in North-West,” NWS said in a press release.

This includes, but without limiting yourself, the beaches of the counties of Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Monterey and San Mateo.

A wave of sneaker is exactly what the name suggests – a wave that rises unexpectedly further than expected along the beach, “sneaking” sometimes on a person with potentially deadly consequences.

“These waves can suddenly eliminate people and pull them quickly in the cold waters of the ocean, where the currents will be stronger than expected,” the NWS press release continues.

NWS strongly advises beach defects “never to turn your back on the ocean!”

Warning of dangerous conditions continues until 11 p.m. Monday.
