The first season of Jose Mourinho in Fenerbahce was anything but silent. The Portuguese coach, known for his love for the drama, brought his brand buffoonemeries to Turkish football and has already aroused a storm on and off the field.
The last chapter took place on April 2, during an ardent Turkish Cup derby against Galatasaray. After a 2-1 tense defeat at home, Mourinho was surprised grabbing and pinching the nose of the coach of Galatasaray Okan Buruk, arousing indignation.
Mourinho received a ban on three games for the incident. He was also sentenced to a fine of 2,92,500 Turks (Rs 6.58,618). Galatasaray officials accused Mourinho of a “physical attack” and their social media team made fun of the 62 -year -old man.
But this incident was only the last of a series of controversies that followed since Mourinho took over as a Fenerbahce chief coach in June 2024.
A chronology of Mourinho’s anger attacks in Türkiye
August 11, 2024: Mourinho received a yellow card at only 20 minutes after his Turkish Beginnings Super Lig after having played with match referees in their 1-0 victory against Adana Demirspor.
September 30, 2024: Mourinho protested against a prohibited objective by placing a laptop in front of television cameras, showing what he claimed was proof of an arbitration error during the 2-0 victory of Fenerbahce against Antalyaspor.
October 24, 2024: In a confrontation of the Europa League against his former Manchester United club, Mourinho was shown a straight red for having furiously challenged a penalty call. He subsequently applauded sarcastically the multitasking capabilities of the referee.
November 8, 2024: Mourinho received a ban on a match after stating that he was fighting against “adversaries and the system”, accusing Fenerbahce of having hidden the truth about Turkish football before his appointment.
February 1, 2025: Mourinho successfully asked for a foreign referee for another Turkish derby against Galatasaray. Slavko Vinic Slovenian was called to officer. The match ended with a 0-0 draw.
February 27, 2025: A post-match jab in Turkish referees allowed him a ban on four games from the Turkish Football Federation. His controversial comment comparing the Galatasaray bench to the “monkeys” led to an accusation of racism in the same match.
February 28, 2025: Mourinho and Fenerbahce retaliated, pursuing Galatasaray for defamation and denying any racist intention. He described the accusations of “deliberately distorting”.
March 7, 2025: At a press conference after a defeat against the Rangers, Mourinho pretended to fall asleep while a journalist asked a long -term question. He even snored while the journalist continued with his question.
