A car enters the gates of Downing Street where the British Prime Minister lives

LONDON — Armed police arrested a man on Thursday after a car was driven to the gates of Downing Street where British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and several other senior politicians reside.
“A man at the scene suspected of criminal damage and dangerous driving,” London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement. “No injuries were reported.”
Shortly after the incident, video shared by the BBC appeared to show a hatchback approaching the Downing Street entrance relatively slowly.
Footage on social media showed the car at the street gates surrounded by emergency vehicles.
Large sections of the surrounding area were closed to the public as a large police presence entered the area.
Sunak’s office did not say whether he was home at the time of the incident, which occurred as many government workers were leaving their nearby offices for the day.
