A Boeing jet made for China Xiamen Airlines was returned to the American Boeing production center while the American aviation giant finds itself taken in the trade war.
According to online flight files, a 737 Max flew from Zousehan and landed in Seattle on Sunday evening, local time.
Reuters first pointed out the landing by plane, saying that it was one of several 737 maximum planes waiting for the Zousehan Comparition Center in Boeing for the final work and delivery to Chinese airlines.
The Puget Sound Business Journal reported in 2020 that Xiamen Airlines had reduced its flights to Seattle in 2019. Previously, it piloted Boeing 787 on the road.
It is not known why the plane was sent back to the United States and if more aircraft for Chinese airlines will be returned.
Airnav Radar’s data showed another Zhoushan Boeing 737 Max going to Guam at local time on Monday morning – a frequent stop for planes returning to the United States.
Boeing and Xiamen Airlines immediately responded to requests for comments from Business Insider.
Last week, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources, which China ordered its airlines to stop taking deliveries of Boeing Planes and America, as a new measure against its trade war with the United States.
After the story of Bloomberg, President Donald Trump said on Truth Social This China “has just denied Boeing’s great agreement, claiming that they” will not take possession “of fully engaged in planes”.
Xiamen Airlines is a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, a state carrier who is one of the “three major” airlines in the country.
On April 11, China Southern Airlines stopped the sale of 10 of her used Dreamliner Boeing 787-8 planes, according to a file with Shanghai United and Equity Exchange. China Southern had planned to replace her Dreamliners with larger and more recent planes, but he reversed his decision.
The state of the trade war
The American-Chinese trade war quickly intensified Trump’s second term.
China has slowed down the importation of Hollywood films and added prices to various American goods. The United States has put restrictions on Nvidia selling its H20 chips in China, a move from analysts said is essentially a ban when exporting these chips.
China has a right of 125% on American goods. The White House said Chinese products face a tax up to 245%.
China is an important market for Boeing, which recovered after a series of financial losses and reputation last year. Any taxation on deliveries threatens its market share as it competes with Airbus in Europe and the new entrants of China.
In its 2024 annual report submitted in February, Boeing called China “important market” which would be affected by the “deterioration of geopolitical or commercial relations”. Boeing has not broken down the company’s income by region.
Boeing is one of the 100 most precious companies in the United States and employed 172,000 people in December. Its stock is down 8.5% this year.
