A man has been seriously injured after being hit with a baseball bat in the Bronx as he tried to stop his alleged attacker from abusing a dog on the street.
Rubin Bartley, 34, has been charged with attempted murder for punching the 35-year-old victim during a fight on East 135th Street and Third Avenue in New York City.
Police were called to the scene in Mott Haven around 3.45pm on Sunday.
The bloodied victim was seen being carried on a stretcher into an ambulance after being repeatedly hit with a wooden bat and breaking his jaw.
The victim, 35, could suffer after the ordeal.

Bartley, from eastern New York, allegedly beat up his female doberman when the victim tried to intervene.
He allegedly threw the 35-year-old to the ground, walked to his car, pulled out a bat and hit him with it.
Despite a broken jaw, the victim is said to be in stable condition, reports the NYPost.
He was taken to Lincoln Medical Center for treatment for trauma to his face and head.
The injured victim was seen with his hand raised to his head in pain – while his shirt was covered in blood.
Bartley arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Monday.

Earlier this year, in March, tTwo people have been arrested after they were filmed brutally and sickeningly attacking a bat at a man in the middle of a street in Queens, above a parking space.
Authorities said the attack – which happened on 49th Street in Sunnyside – left the unidentified victim with brain damage and on a ventilator.
Alleged attackers Arturo Cuevas, 30, and Daisy Barrera, 27, can be seen in the video ruthlessly punching and kicking the 28-year-old in broad daylight.
As well as being kicked and beaten, police said the man was also stabbed five times “all over his body” and entered the hospital in critical condition.
Barrera and Cuevas have each been charged with attempted second degree murder, first degree assault and second degree assault.
