A 30-year-old math teacher became pregnant by a student while awaiting trial for “grooming” another 15-year-old schoolboy, whom she brought back to her luxury apartment for sex, according to the court

A maths teacher became pregnant by one of her students while awaiting trial for bringing another schoolboy back to her luxury apartment for sex, a court heard today.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, was on bail accused of “grooming” a 15-year-old for sex by buying him a Gucci belt worth £345 from Selfridges in the Trafford Centre.

She then drove him in her white Audi to her flat in Salford Quays where they had sex twice, a jury heard.

But despite her telling him “No one cares to know”, he messaged a friend on Snapchat to tell her he had just “slept with Ms Joynes”, they were told said.

And when the friend refused to believe it, he secretly took a photo of her and sent it to her, prosecutors alleged.

Word spread over the weekend, and the following Monday, police were called to the Greater Manchester school where she worked, and she was arrested, according to the lawsuit.

Joynes was released on bail for not contacting children under 18 and suspended from employment.

But as she awaited trial on charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child, it was “remarkably” revealed that she was “quite brazenly” having a long-term sexual relationship with a boy, the court said. prosecutor Joe Allman.

The affair with the second boy – during which he claimed they had sex about 30 times – came to light after she told him she was expecting his child, Mr Allman said.

It came as a “shock” to the schoolboy as she had told him she couldn’t get pregnant.

Today, Joynes – who the jury was told has since had the baby – sat with her arms crossed in front of her, dressed in a lilac-colored jacket and with her blonde hair down as the file of the accusation against her was exposed.

In October 2021, she was giving the first pupil – called Boy A – extra maths lessons before his GCSEs at the school where she worked and who cannot be named for legal reasons, Manchester Crown Court heard.

He then told police she challenged him to guess his mobile phone number, after giving him ten of the 11 digits, Mr Allman said.

The prosecutor told jurors it was “obviously a game designed to allow him to guess his number.”

They began exchanging messages and agreed the 15-year-old girl would come to his flat after school that Friday evening, the court heard.

“At first he thought she was joking,” Mr. Allman said.

But on this day she picked him up in her car before picking up her dog from a doggie daycare, dropping the animal off at his parents’ house before taking him to the Trafford Centre.

The jury saw what Mr Allman described as “clear” CCTV footage of Boy A pulling out various belts in the Gucci Selfridges concession.

Joynes – dressed in a turquoise jacket – could then be seen placing her bank card on the counter before Boy A put on the belt.

Mr Allman told jurors she “groomed” the boy.

Other CCTV footage shows the couple arriving at his apartment, Mr Allman said, where the boy told police they had sex twice.

But after the boy told his friends, police were called to the school the following Monday and Joynes was arrested.

She responded “no comment” during the interview, but now agrees to buy the belt and take Boy A to her apartment.

“You may decide she has no choice but to accept this because it was caught on CCTV and other fairly compelling evidence,” Mr Allman said.

But she denies any sexual activity took place with Boy A, he told jurors.

It was only after Boy A’s testimony was pre-recorded before Joynes’ trial that the alleged relationship with the second student, Boy B, came to light, Mr Allman said.

Boy B told police they started kissing when he was just 15, the court heard – but Joynes claims the sexual activity only happened after his 16 years old and had been fired from her teaching job.

Boy B told police he tried to follow her on Snapchat around February 2022 and she then sent him a photo of her butt covered only by panties.

The messages became more “flirty” and he too agreed to come to her house, he said.

At first, he sat “nervously” on her couch, but then they “started kissing” before going into her bedroom and having sex, Boy B told police.

Over the next few months, they had sex “on numerous occasions and in different locations,” an estimated 30 times, he said.

But after having a “date night” and strewing his apartment with rose petals, he said she handed him a baby crop marked “Best Dad” and told him she was pregnant.

She also bought a scratch card from Victoria’s Secret featuring sexual fantasies to fulfill, he said.

Boy B also told police that after first going to Joynes’ fifth-floor apartment, while sitting on the couch, he said to her: “Do I won’t even get a kiss?”

He said they did not use protection when they had sex because she told him she had polycystic ovary syndrome.

Questioned by police a second time, Boy B gave a different version of events – perhaps a sign, according to Mr Allman, that he had initially tried to “cover up” for Joynes.

This time, he said he tried “repeatedly” to end the relationship, but she became “controlling” and wouldn’t let them break up.

He said Joynes told him the “shocking” news that she was pregnant by leaving a “trail of surprises” around her apartment, including rose petals and a scratch card – culminating in a “baby grows up” with “I love my dad” written on it. .

Mr Allman told jurors that although his relationship with Boy B ceased to be illegal once he turned 16 and she was fired, the prosecution argued it had already become sexual at this stage.

Jurors heard Boy A packed an overnight bag before being picked up by Joynes, lying to his mother that he was staying at a friend’s house.

The next morning, Joynes left first, telling him to give him the keys to the apartment when she saw him in class on Monday while she spent the weekend with her parents.

But he left his phone charger and Airpods behind, so they arranged to exchange the items when they got back to school.

However, the prosecutor said “rumors began to circulate” over the weekend and after a call to Childline, police spoke to Boy A at school before he could hand him over.

He was found to have his keys and the Gucci belt, Mr Allman said.

Both of Joynes’ parents watched the proceedings from the public gallery.

Earlier, Judge Kate Cornell told jurors they should “put aside” any “assumptions and stereotypes” they might have about people who commit sexual offenses against children and evaluate the evidence with “the cool head.”

Joynes was arrested for his allegations in June 2023, the court heard.

The police had to knock and wait for her to open the door, and when they entered her apartment, they discovered that her phone had just been put into reset mode, erasing the data on it.

She again responded “no comment” to questions.

Joynes denies six counts of sexual activity with a child, two of which were in a position of trust.

The trial continues.
