The Trump administration was a boon for the regulatory problems of Elon Musk companies. The billionaire who directed the so-called Ministry of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) responsible for avoiding certain federal agencies now benefits less control over his businesses since Donald Trump took up his duties, reported NBC News.
An NBC News review of regulatory questions that involve Musk companies revealed that in more than 40 cases, regulators have not taken any public measures in their surveys for several months.
Since Trump took office, the Ministry of Justice abandoned a case against SpaceX who accused the company of refusing to hire asylum beneficiaries and refugee immigrants in the United States, an investigation by the labor department on the discrimination of workforce in Tesla ended after Trump signed an executive decree that emptied the office. And the National Labor Relations Board opened conferences on the layoffs on SpaceX dismissals of employees who criticized Musk. The American Department of Agriculture questioned an investigation into Neuralink, which Musk has, for potential violations of animal welfare to one of Trump’s first decrees dismissed the USDA inspectors and 16 other agencies. The former general inspectors continue.
A Congress Report last month said the day Trump was sworn in, Musk and his businesses were facing some $ 2.37 billion in any federal fines and penalties. The report, of senator Richard Blumenthal and the minority staff of the permanent subcommittee of the Senate, of surveys, concluded that Musk and his companies were “subject to at least 65 real or potential actions of 11 different federal agencies” on January 20, 2025.
“Mr. Musk has brought a chainsaw to the federal government without apparent regard to the law or for people who depend on the programs and agencies which he destroys so cheerfully,” said the report. “The line through the connection of Musk’s many decisions seems to be a self-enrichment and avoid what he perceives as obstacles to advance his interests.”
Responding to the report, the White House communications director Steven Cheung, “said:” Mr. Musk has never used his position for a personal or financial gain, and any statement is otherwise false and defamatory. Dick clearly suffers from a debilitating and impeccable case of Trump Development syndrome. ”
Musk companies, according to the report, have experienced more than $ 38 billion in public contracts, loans, grants and tax credits over the past 20 years. His businesses will probably continue to take advantage of lucrative government contracts, even if Musk claims that he is backing from Doge.
Reuters reported last month that Musk’s SpaceX is one of the main competitors for contracts to help create a satellite anti-missile defense system for the United States that Trump calls the “gold dome”. Musk, whose company SpaceX offers a satellite internet service called Starlink, denied the report.
Last month, SpaceX obtained contracts for 28 American Space Force rocket launches worth $ 5.9 billion. During the first two months of the administration, SpaceX received more than $ 560 million in government contracts, including $ 100 million from NASA. The Federal Aviation Administration and the White House even installed Starlink satellite joints to increase government internet access.
