Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to “defend us alone” against the Yemen Houthi rebels after US President Donald Trump has entered into an agreement with the group supported by Iran.
The American agreement, announced just hours after the Israeli army has carried out major strikes against Yemen International Airport and other facilities in response to a Houthi attack on Israel’s main airport, was a surprise for Israel, which was not informed in advance of the car, an Israeli official told CNN.
According to Trump, the United States interrupted an ongoing military campaign against the Houthis in exchange for the group which stopped its attacks on American interests in the region.
The Houthis recognized the agreement but clearly indicated that their attacks on Israel would continue. Top leader Houthis Mohammed Ali al-Houthi said after the announcement that the agreement was “a victory that separates American support from the temporary entity (Israel) and a failure for Netanyahu”.
Netanyahu said on Wednesday, “Israel will defend himself alone.” In the past, Israel has carried out joint strikes with the United States against the Houthis, but two consecutive days of Israeli attacks against Yemen earlier this week were carried out alone. “If others join us-our American friends-all the best. If they don’t do so, we will always defend ourselves,” he said in a video published on social networks.
Trump described the agreement to capitulate Houthis on Tuesday, but on Wednesday, he said that they had a “good result with the Houthis”, adding that they had a “great ability to resist punishment” of repeated American strikes.
“You could say that there is a lot of bravery there,” said Trump in an aspect of his ambassador in China in the White House. “It was incredible what they took.”
He added that the United States “will honor its commitment (Houthis”) “not to attack American warships or commercial ships in the region.
The American truce Houthis has sidelined the Israeli government, according to the former American envoy of the Middle East Dennis Ross.
He noted that Netanyahu was left in the dark when the United States began talks with Hamas in March and discovered that US nuclear talks with Iran when Trump was sitting next to the Prime Minister in the oval office last month. Another case’s concern of Israel’s concerns were a tertiary consideration for the White House, if applicable, he said.
It remains to be seen if Ross said that Ross told CNN that Israel does not seem to have been a major factor in the White House reflection process.
“The Trump administration is thinking of the interests of the United States,” said Ross.
There was no public criticism of the White House decision of Israeli officials. Netanyahu, who has once openly criticized the Biden administration and policies, is one of Trump’s most vocal international supporters. Other members of the government have also reserved their judgment, rather focusing on the determination of Israel against the Houthis.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement on Thursday that “Israel should be able to defend itself against any threat and any enemy. It was true in the face of many past challenges, and it will remain true in the future. ”
Trump appointed the Houthi group as a foreign terrorist organization in the last days of its first mandate as president. President Joe Biden revoked this appointment at the start of his presidency in 2021, and Trump again appointed him in January.
