The perfect father.
Liev Schreiber spoke of her daughter with Naomi Watts, Kai, 16, for the first time since she proudly came out transgender.
“Kai has always been that Kai is,” the actor of “Spotlight” said on Thursday. “But I guess the deepest moment was that she was asking us to change her pronouns.”
“To be honest with you,” he added, “it didn’t seem to me to be an agreement for me only because Kai has been so feminine for so long.”
Kai, who made her track debut as a model for Valentino during the Paris Fashion Week in March, should join his famous father and his wife, Taylor Neisen, in New York Friday evening for the gala at the table at the Ali Forney Center.
The center provides accommodation and other means of support for more than 2,200 homeless members of LGBTQ + youth – and although Shreiber’s daughter does not face the same difficulties as these young individuals, this does not mean that they still cannot help the community of which it is a part.
“It is not only a question of representing the trans community,” said the actor. “It is in fact a community of people who do not have excellent resources, who do not have access to help, who are not protected and neat by their families.
“These are people who are rejected. These are people who experience the hardest version of humanity that we can offer, and some of them do not survive,” he continued. “We have to keep this in mind when we go there and glam and we are preparing to be seen, you know?”
“That what we do is really raised funds for a community that desperately needs it,” added Schreiber.
As for the way his daughter has been trying since her release, the actor “Scream” said that Kai is a “fighter” who is not afraid to embrace his new role as icon of trans fashion.
“Kai is such a fighter,” he said. “It is important that she says,” hey, I’m trans “and” look at me “and,” f – k you. F – k off “.”
However, Shreiber hesitated to give advice to other parents who, like him, asked their children to go out as a transgender.
“I do not know the answer to your child,” said the star of “Ray Donovan”. “I don’t know what it is for you to be a Trans Father. I don’t know how you were raised. I do not know what religion you have encountered or what is your spirituality. And for me to tell you what I think of my child feels as an overtaking.
“I suppose that if I would say something to someone who has problems with their trans or her trans teenage child, they are” teenagers are AF headaches-they are hard, “he said laughing. “It doesn’t matter whether they are trans or not because you will get out of it.
“But a trans teenager will be a teenager,” added Shreiber. “They are so painful in the ass so much time, and Kai is as fiery and frank that they come.”
The star of “The Perfect couple” concluded his interview by approaching the political attacks renewed against the Trans community. But despite the assault against trans rights, it remains full of hope.
“I don’t really like dwell on it,” said the actor of “Asteroid City”. “To a certain extent, I feel like I do not want to cook this fear or anxiety. There is enough in the world to be anxious and fear.”
Schreiber is not the first proud father to speak to support his child after their transgender exit.
The legend of Hollywood, Robert de Niro, 81, also spoke in April after his 29 -year -old daughter, Airyn, was released as trans.
“I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I like and I support Airyn as my daughter,” the star of the “raging bull” told post last month. “I don’t know what the problem is.”
“I love all my children,” he added.
