Copenhagen, Denmark (AP)-Denmark said that it will convene the best American diplomat in the country for an explanation following a report by the Wall Street Journal on the United States which intelligence intelligence on Greenland, a Danish territory semi-autonomous coveted by President Donald Trump.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen told the broadcaster outside of a meeting on Wednesday with colleagues in Poland that Denmark would summon the US manager to request a “refutation” or another explanation following the report.
The newspaper, citing two families familiar with the American effort he has not identified, reported that several senior officials from the American director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, had ordered the heads of the intelligence agency to learn more about the independence movement of Greenland and the feeling on the extraction of American resources.
The United States Embassy did not immediately respond to the emails of the Associated Press by asking to comment whether the American diplomat in Copenhagen, Jennifer Hall Godfrey, had received a summons. The Danish Foreign Ministry, in an email, has not commented beyond the reference to the remarks of Rasmussen.
Rasmussen, who previously scolded the Trump administration about his criticisms of NATO Ally Denmark and Greenland, said that reports from the report was “very worrying” and “we are not spying with friends”.
“We are looking at this with great seriousness,” he added.
The Prime Minister of Greenland said last month that the American statements on the Arctic Island rich in minerals were disrespectful and that “will never be, an element of property which can be bought by anyone”.
During a visit to the island last month, Denmark Prime Minister puts Frederiksen, said, addressing the United States during a visit to Greenland that “you cannot annex another country”, even with the argument put forward by American officials that international security is at stake.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would respect the self -determination of Greenland and alleged that the Greenlanders “did not want to be part of Denmark”.
