Indian planes fell after the country launched attacks on Pakistan this week, in what it said was reprisals for a terrorist attack in the Kashmir controlled by India which killed 26 people and boiled tensions between the two nations.
The exact number and the variety of lost planes are not yet clear.
Two or three Indian planes fell inside the border of India, according to Indian officials, Western diplomats and local media. Pakistan, for its part, claims to have shot down five planes and at least one drone: three Rafale fighter planes, a MIG-29 fighter plane, a SU-30 fighter plane and a heron drone.
The New York Times could not independently verify these statements.
John E. Pike, director of Globalsecurity.org, a non -profit research group based in Alexandria, Virginia, said that these five planes and the drone could have been killed by air or air -air surface missiles. “Pakistan has both,” he said.
Here’s what you should know about the plane that the Pakistani army says it has shot down.
Gust
The Rafale is a fighter plane at two engines which can take off from an aircraft carrier or a base on the ground, according to its French manufacturer, Dassault Aviation.
In April, the Indian government signed an agreement with France to buy 26 others from the Indian Navy plane, to be delivered by 2030. According to Dassault Aviation, India had previously ordered 36 gusts.
Photos from the village of Wuyan in India to the cashmere administered by India have shown identified debris as an external fuel tank for an airplane. Trevor Ball, associate researcher at Argent Research Services, said that the tank was probably from a mirage or burst of French manufacturing plane, but it could not confirm whether the fuel tank came from an airplane that had been affected by enemy fire.
MIG-29
The MIG-29 designed by the Soviets is a fighter at two engines developed to counter American fighters like the F-16. The Soviet Air Force began using MIG-29 in the 1980s, and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many former Soviet republics continued to use the plane. It was also a popular export; More than 30 nations have used or exploited it, according to the command of the training of the American army.
The plane was originally intended for enemy planes fighting dogs, although some MIG-29s were equipped to attack targets on the ground.
The MIG-29 is often a competitor of the F-16 in international arms sales, Mr. Pike, adding that it was “competition that she loses frequently”.
SU-30
SU-30 is a fighter at two engines developed in the Soviet Union in the 1990s by Russian Sukhoi aviation. It can be used for an Air-Air fight, or missions hitting targets on the ground, according to an analysis of the American army.
It is much larger than the MIG-29, almost 72 feet long and with an increase in more than 48 feet. (MIG-29 is almost 57 feet long and has a wing of about 37 feet.)
Heron drone
Heron drones encompass a family of air -made Israeli manufacturing vehicles. US government assessments listed India as having at least one variant.
