When President Donald Trump descends to the Kennedy Performing Arts Center next month for a high dollar fundraising and a performance of “the miserable”, he will not see the usual actors, sources told CNN.
At least 10 to 12 artists to predict them to sit on the program on June 11, the night at Trump attended the Kennedy Center, the sources said. The cast had the possibility of not carrying out the night that Trump will be in the public, and the main members of the distribution and the members of the whole are among those who are, according to the sources.
This decision highlights the friction between the Trump administration and the members of the center while the president made an aggressive push to reshape him, pushing the spectacle arts complex based in Washington, DC in the midst of cultural wars.
The boycott follows Trump’s decision to effectively take control of the Kennedy Center in the context of a general effort that his administration undertook to fold American institutions – including cultural, legal and educational pillars – to the will of the president.
Less than a month after his presidency, Trump settled as president of Kennedy Center thanks to a newly constituted council, including several new nominees from Trump who replaced the administrators appointed by Democratic presidents. He also appointed Richard Grenell, a long -standing confidant who already held several administrative positions, to the role of the director earlier this year.
The same evening that Trump will attend the performance of Les Mis, he will also hold fundraising for the benefit of Kennedy Center. The fundraising was reported for the first time by ABC News.
“We definitely use the opening of them as an opportunity” to consolidate the finances of the center, said a person familiar with the plans at CNN.
During his 2016 campaign, Trump used the music of Les put during his campaign rallies, to which the co-creators of the musical opposed, according to The Guardian.
In a statement to CNN, Grennel, which identified itself as president of Kennedy Center, said that it was not aware that some distribution members planned to boycott the performance at night of Trump’s appearance and that the Kennedy Center “will no longer finance intolerance”.
“Any artist who is not professional enough to perform for customers from all walks of life, whatever his political affiliation, will not be welcomed,” said Grennell. “In fact, we believe that it would be important to release these zero and intolerant artists to ensure that producers know who they should not hire – and that the public knows which programs have political shooting tests to sit in the public. The Kennedy Center wants to be a place where people from all political bands are seated next to each other and never ask you for whom someone has voted but enjoyed a performance together. β
CNN contacted comments to the Kennedy Center, the company producing the MIS and the union which represents the actors.
The White House did not respond to a request for comments.
Trump complained publicly and deprived of the state of Kennedy Center, while Grenell previously said that he had “no money at hand, no reserves”.
“More drag shows or other anti -American propaganda – only the best,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in February. “Ric, welcome to show business!”

Artists such as Issa Rae, Shonda Rhimes and Ben Folds have resigned from their management positions or canceled events in space in response to changes, while the center canceled performances, including the visit of the “Finn” music comedy.
A spokesperson for Kennedy Center told CNN: “” Finn “, which has not yet been announced, has been canceled for financial reasons before the change in Kennedy Center leadership. The authors were also informed before the change. β
“Finn” was commanded by the Kennedy Center in 2023. In February, one of the co-creators of the show, Michael Koman, told Washington Post that before the board of directors is realized to change the leadership of the Kennedy Center, “La Finn” Creative Team had received a telephone call from the center by saying that the financial didn’t work, “Komanoman said.
“It is difficult to ignore the circumstances in which the cancellation of the tour occurs,” he added.
High -level emissions like “Hamilton”, meanwhile, have removed performance at Kennedy Center after Trump’s takeover.
During a visit to the center in March, Trump criticized Hamilton, the successful musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda which is a modern account of the country’s foundation through the eyes of Alexander Hamilton, including a multi -thnical distribution.
“I never liked Hamilton much,” Trump told journalists.
“But we are going to have very good shows,” added Trump. “I would say that, come here and look at it, and you will see, over a period of time, it will improve very much physically. And we will get very good shows. What is good, are successes on Broadway.”
