The veteran of the law application, Bill Scott, was appointed Metro chief of the first internal police service of the Transit agency.
Scott announced his retirement as a San Francisco police chief this morning after eight years. He had previously spent 27 years with the Los Angeles police service.
Last year, the metro board of directors approved a new police and emergency management service following an increase in crime and attacks against bus drivers.
Scott will build the department and supervise the training and the selection of staff. He is responsible for the main coordination of security for the 2026 World Cup, the Super Bowl 2027 and the 2028 Olympic Games.
“We have heard the community’s call to a chief who is calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent and politically clever,” said Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro, in a statement. “It’s a decisive moment for Metro’s public security strategy.
Scott will assume his new role on June 23, according to the press release.
