The Bay FC granted a goal at the fifth minute of the time to stop while Trinity Armstrong directed a kick from Kenza Dali in the ground before bouncing in the net to lift the San Diego Wave FC to a 2-1 victory at the Snapdragon stadium on Sunday evening.
It was the first career goal in the NWSL for the 17 -year -old Armstrong, which met the corner of Dali’s exit just in front of the net and led him down, making him bounce back on the defenders of the Bay FC and the former goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz.
Karlie Lema scored the only goal for Bay FC, when she took a pass from Racheal Kundananji and went to the left corner after the goalkeeper Kalen Sheridan to equalize match 1-1 in the 18th minute. It came 12 minutes after Kennedy Wesley from San Diego scored on a head that passed a diving silkowitz for his first goal of the season.
“Any NWSL match is really difficult. Proud of the group for responding to a goal early, I think we were resilient to that,” said Bay FC defender Abby Dahlkemper. “Do not hang your head, but little things make a big difference in this league. We take the positive points, focusing on the little things that can help us improve and wait for another match next weekend.”
Silkowitz finished with three stops, including one on a penalty fired by María Sánchez in the 27th minute. San Diego also hit the post three times, including one by Delphine Cascarino in the 88th minute.
The Bay FC (2-3-2) is traveling to play the current Kansas City next Sunday. His next home game is May 17 against Angel City FC.
