The boss of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, took a blow to the first officiating League, accusing the League of inconsistency when it comes to applying the rules.

The Gunners were shown five red cards this season, the largest number of any team in the elite, at the city of Ipswich.

Several of these layoffs sparked controversy, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard both returned to delay the restart at the start of the campaign.

Arteta thinks that his players were harshly punished at the start of the season, only for the interpretation of the rules to change over the campaign.

The Spaniard said: “The rules at the start of the season when we were punished and after 15 games were very different”.

“I hope that next season, we will have new rules for certain matches, then change them again. It would be great if possible. Especially for all teams at least the same rules.

In August, Rice received his walking orders against Brighton after launching the ball.

Arsenal was finally held in a 1-1 draw by the Seagulls after having led by a goal before sending the 49th minute of the midfielder.

Three weeks later, Trossard was also returned for returning the ball while the Gunners lost more points in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

William Saliba and Myles-Lewis Skelly also saw red in a frustrating season for Arsenal, whose title’s challenge ended last week.

Arteta praised the new Liverpool champions, saying: “It is good that they had no distraction.

“The good thing is that they had them on the ground all the time, which is something very positive. And it is a club, in the past 10 years, they have been consistent, they are fighting for trophies, winning large trophies, winning the Champions League. They are therefore used to this.

“No one should be surprised because they have the level and they did it because they did very well, very well. They therefore deserve to be champions.
