Aboriginal groups say they were stunned and injured after Melbourne’s storm canceled a welcome ceremony in the campaign scheduled a few hours before kick -off during their LNR match of the Anzac day.
Wurundjeri’s elder, Aunty Joy Murphy, was to deliver the reception to the Pays of the Aami Park before Friday evening shock against South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The performances of the Maori Ngā Mātai Pūrua group and the Wurundjeri Djirri Djirri dance group were also organized for the evening.
However, while the artists repeated on the ground, Murphy said that she had been informed by the club’s board of directors that they only wanted to welcome the country.
“We were all amazed,” said Aunty Joy late Friday.
Following the decision, Ngā Mātai Pūrua and Djirri Djirri withdrew from performance.

Murphy said the club apologized later and asked him to go ahead with the ceremony, but after discussions, the native groups chose not to continue.
“We would really like to be there, but they broke our hearts,” said Murphy.
Storm president Matt tripp said the question was born from a misunderstanding between the board of directors and management.
Tripp said that the board of directors had approved the welcome ceremonies to the countries for multicultural and indigenous rounds, not the Anzac day.
“We were not sure it was happening in this game, and when we asked the question, there was a little confusion,” Tripp at Sydney Morning Herald told Sydney.
He said the board of directors would now plan to include reception in the country during the future games of Anzac day.
Tripp also confirmed that he was not aware of the disturbance of the dawn service of Melbourne earlier during the day.
‘I had no idea. I worked all day and I didn’t know, but it was shameful this morning. We strongly condemn this behavior, “he said.
