A fugitive who was found guilty by a jury after he was not presented for the rest of his trial died, confirmed the Sheriff’s Bureau of Washington.
David Powers, 37, from New Auburn, Minnesota, was found dead in San Antonio earlier this week, according to the Sheriff. The authorities had an arrest warrant after having cut off his GPS tracker, violating his parole.
Powers – also known as David Robakevich – testified on Friday for his own defense, but did not appear on Monday.
The jury returned a guilt verdict on Tuesday, condemning the powers of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, kidnapping and domestic assault by strangulation. Judicial documents allege that Powers attacked and raped a woman and held her in his apartment on Lake Elmo against her will in 2023.
Sources confirm to 5 Eyewitness News that Powers was involved in an assault reported before his death.
