Alhambra: pitcher arousing professional interest
When Cameron Millar of the Alhambra took the mound this season, the stands were generally a little more crowded – except that they are not only fans.
The scouts are closed in their own section behind the marble, their radar pistols and their pliers with a pliers dissecting each of the Millar terrains.
In a championship match last week against Clayton Valley, more than a dozen scouts showed up to watch Millar take the mound.
“It was actually a kind of light,” said Alhambra coach Gabriel Sahagun. “We have had a lot more in the past.”
The 6 -foot Millar 2 inches and 195 pounds is comfortable with all the attention.
“I’m quite used to it now,” he said. “I don’t even notice it.”
The senior right -hander signed up at the University of Arizona last season. But as most high -level baseball prospects, Millar could also have an option to become a pro this summer and jump the school.
“I will finish in a good place,” said Millar. “Whether Arizona or spring training, you never know.”
Millar easily launched in the mid -90s and did not give up a deserved race in one of its nine departures this season.
He attributes a strong accent on his lower body to explain why he can launch so hard.
“It’s about training,” said Millar. “It is increasingly coarse on these legs.”
Against Clayton Valley – one of the best offenses in the East Bay – Millar dominated. He launched a complete laundering, withdrawing 10 and allowing only three strokes in a 1-0 victory.
