The cricket of the major league moves its headquarters in a suburbs of Dallas de San Francisco as it seeks to build an American audience for one of the most popular sports in the world.
This year’s playoff and championship match will also be held at the Grand Prairie cricket stadium, the League announced on Thursday. The place, located about 15 miles from downtown Dallas, already houses one of the six teams in the League: the Texas Super Kings, which are co-owners by Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Premier League, the billionaire Ross Perot Jr. and the businessman of Dallas Anurag Jain.
“It is not” if “it is” how long “it will take to settle,” said Johnny Grave, director general of the League, referring to the base of budding fans of sport in the United States.
The season will only take place for a month, from June 12 to July 13. The goal is to “own part of the calendar”, a window for the teams to bring the best players abroad when larger leagues do not play, said serious. This part of the calendar also coincides with the hot summer of Texas, when temperatures can easily climb over 100 F (38 C). But the league stadiums will all include permanent lights to allow night matches.
Officially known as Cognizant Major League Cricket, the league enters its third season and has San Francisco teams in Washington. Cricket will also appear at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first time since the Paris Games in 1900.
“Sport grows like a little mushroom,” said Jain. “The story has just started.”
