Go for the Kill.
The star of “SNL”, Bowen Yang, described the joke as vice-president JD Vance as “Pope Killer” in the episode of “The View” on Thursday, sending Whoopi Goldberg and his co-animators in laughter.
Yang, 34, appeared in the day show to promote his new film, “The Wedding Banquet”.
The comedian’s remark on Vance, 40, alluded to the death of Pope Francis, who died of a stroke on Monday at the age of 88, only a few hours after meeting the vice-president at Easter.
Yang’s round table on “The View” pivoted Vance because Yang portrayed the author “Hillbilly Elegy” on “SNL”.
Co-host Sara Haines asked Yang if he was true that he did not want to play Vance in the series.
“I just thought there would be better people for that,” said the actor of the “Fire Island”.
“It was my impostor syndrome. I said to myself, there were better people for that. I worked with an accent coach, I had to get it between Ohio and the Appalaches with the accent. It’s difficult, it’s very subtle! “
Goldberg praised Yang’s performance, saying: “It was funny like hell.”
Yang thanked the Oscars winner before adding laughing: “I mean, look, the guy is a pope killer, ok?”
The panel and the public broke out laughing.
Goldberg had the greatest reaction among women “seen”, leaning forward on the table as she was trying to hide her face from the cameras. The star of “Ghost” then looked up only briefly to turn his body from the public, trying to hide his reaction again.
“There is our new title!” Hatreds rang.
After finding his composure, Goldberg returned to face the panel and exclaimed: “Someone had to say it!”
Yang repeated Goldberg: “Someone had to say!”
Joy Behar then offered: “He does not want it literally, he speaks – spiritually.”
Apparently, in order to broadcast the situation, Sunny Hostin added: “It’s just comedy!” The legal expert laughed when she brought the conversation to the new Yang film.
“Ok, I’m going to get together,” she gleams.
Goldberg was among the many celebrities who cried Pope Francis’ death after the news broke out early Monday morning.
“He had been the closest for a long time that seemed to remember that the love of the beloved enveloped Christ and no believer,” she wrote on Instagram. “He felt more like Pope John on the 23rd who made real belief. Navigate on Pope Frances with your love of humanity and laughter. ”
Yang was not the only one to joke about the passage of the Pope so shortly after meeting Vance. Tiktok was flooded with videos this week which made a meme out of the situation.
Vance paid tribute to Pope Francis shortly after his death.
“My heart goes to millions of Christians from around the world who loved him,” he wrote on X.
“I was happy to see him yesterday, even if he was obviously very sick. But I will always remember him for the homily below that he gave in the first days of Covid. It was really beautiful enough. May God rest his soul,” he wrote alongside a link with the sermon.
