- The setting came down to Black Ball and Ryan Day went for a double cushion
- Black missed but he saw White roll, which means that he lost the frame against Luca Brecel
Ryan Day’s face was twisted in a mixture of disbelief and disgust after losing a crucial world championship framework.
During his match against the 2023 champion, Luca Brecel, the 16th executive went on the black ball.
Day was on 60 points and his Belgian opponent on 58, with just the black ball left in a pot on the table.
The Welshman intensified and tried a double of the cushion, which missed, but he then looked at consternation while the white slipped towards the angle pocket.
“Where is the Ball Ball!?” Exclaimed the commentator and of course, he fell.
Even if the points of fault would have indicated that Day was always able to win the frame, the rule is that any fault on the dark ends in the frame.

Day was on error and continued to lose the match against Luca Brecel

Brecl, the 2023 champion, went to the quarter -finals in the crucible
This would prove an expensive error, with Brecel to win the match 10-7 to reach the last 16 of the tournament in Sheffield.
Day’s defeat will be even more painful since he had an advance of 5-1 at the start of the match. Then he was hard in Vainée and thought about it: “Even with an advance of 5-1, I looked over my shoulder and I was not impatiently expected. I just am not too confident and I am certainly not the player that I was in the past.
“I introduce myself and play and try. I have done it for a long time, so it is obviously much closer to the end than the start.
“I would have fought as I played if it had been a few years ago, but I reconciled myself.
“I always like competition, I just don’t have the game I had. As long as I am on tour, I will always play and I will earn my life.
“I need to try to do something different (in matches) but I don’t see my game improve much.”
