Tesla lost her crown as a superior EV seller in Europe.
Volkswagen electric vehicles sold the Elon Musk car company in the first three months of the year, according to Jato Dynamics data, an automotive analysis company.
65,679 Volkswagen battery electric vehicles were recorded in the first quarter, compared to 53,237 teslas.
The German car manufacturer has seen its registrations more than double from one year on the other, increasing by 157% since the first quarter of 2024.
Tesla’s registrations fell by 38% over the same period. According to Jato data, it was the biggest decline among the best best recorded brands.
It’s a bad time for Tesla to lose ground. Jato found that the first three months of the year were the strongest quarter for electric battery vehicles ever recorded. Battery electric vehicles represented 16.9% of all total car registrations in March – an increase of 2.7 percentage points in annual sliding.
The United Kingdom was the main engine of growth, with volumes of 13%.
Although the company has lost the first place overall, the Y model and the Tesla 3 model remain the first two most recorded electric vehicles.
In March, the registrations of the first dropped by 43%, but model 3 increased by 1%. The Volkswagen ID.4 ranked third, but remained 2,000 units in less on model 3 throughout the quarter.

“While the brand continues to manage a multitude of public relations problems in addition to the change of model Y, Tesla is now based on model 3 to compensate for its losses,” said Felipe Munoz, global analyst at Jato Dynamics.
“Despite the controversy surrounding the brand’s CEO and the limited availability of the new Y model, Tesla continues to perform well,” he added.
Tesla declared on Tuesday the profits of the first quarter, with a drop in income, while net profit plunged by 64%, well below the expectations of analysts.
However, the stock increased again, because Musk said it would spend less time working with the government and focus more on its automotive business.
