Even if physicity intensified on the field in match 2 of the Warriors eliminatory series against the Houston Rockets, coach Steve Kerr believed that fans inside the Toyota Center crossed the line.
“It is not ideal when a crowd sings” F You, Draymond “,” said Kerr after the defeat of 109-94 of Golden State on Wednesday evening, equalized the series in a match each. “I am absolutely for fans who encourage their team, and if they want to shout to opponents, great. But I just think that” F You “is a little too much.”
The word four letters rang in unison while the clock ended and the green has spread in its seat on the Warriors bench. It was not the first time that an opposing crowd has led the song to green, especially in Boston during the NBA 2022 finals.
Green seemed to be less embarrassed by the obscenities than his coach.
“It’s not original,” he brought his shoulders, polishing his sunglasses behind the microphone. “I’m already won a championship while it happened. I can’t steal others (stuff). It belongs to Boston.”
Nevertheless, while the series moves to San Francisco, it has already taken the intensity of some of the most ferocious battles of warriors.
“Houston played very well; they were really physical, just as we expected,” said Kerr. “We have just licked our injuries and return to work tomorrow.”
“It was who we have been all season,” said Houston striker Tari Eason. “We were a difficult team. We were a gravelly team and Grindy all season. We are who we are. “
The Rockets exceeded the Warriors by two figures and kept them below 100 points for the second consecutive match, but, moreover, showed that they were not afraid to search him. The teams combined for six technical faults – three each – and that could have been more.
Neither Green nor Fred Vanvleet were used after exchanging words at the end of the fourth quarter, leading to the two benches spreading on the ground and needing to be separated. The only fault evaluated was on Eason, who threw a towel in the group of players from Golden State.
“With them, some of the guys they have there, their thing is to try to fight mentally,” said Eason.
He did not name names. But the crowd of Houston did it.
“It’s a competitor, he will always be in the mixture. I’m going to go up with Draymond forever,” said Kerr. “Because of his career, his championships, his fire, he will be a lightning rod. It is part. I prefer that fans use a little more discretion and remember that the guy has children. Maybe I’m from the old school.”
Quinten Post, who obtained one of the Warriors techniques, said: “I think you saw many more emotions on both sides” compared to the first game in the series. Green, on the other hand, did not just minimize the crowd but also the intensity on the field in a match that saw the Warriors lose Jimmy Butler III to injuries to fight for a rebound in the first quarter.
He said he thought it was “a little less physical than play 1”, and after a few people, Stephen Curry concluded.
“There were just a few accidents that occurred there,” said Curry, who was not above putting himself on the ground for a loose bullet, fighting with the top scorer of the Rockets, Jalen Green, in the first half.
“We know what their MO is and what they are trying to do: use their size and athletics to try to intimidate us. We have put a fairly good fight in the two games. … Probably as physical as game 1, just a different style.”
The two teams get two days to recover before match 3 on Saturday, but the Warriors’ fate is probably based in the MRI results that are planned for Butler between the two. He was diagnosed with a pelvic bruise after falling hard on his coccyx.
While Amen Thompson was called to a common fault on the game, he was not determined to be obvious. As he crashed the offensive glass, Thompson highlighted Butler and pulled his legs below him.
The Warriors did not think it was a dirty game.
“I asked our guys behind the bench and they said he seemed that there was a certain physique on the rebound and Thompson inadvertently found himself under Jimmy,” said Kerr. “We didn’t think there was something wrong with the room. It was just one of these pieces.”
Green, as always, found himself in the middle of it.
“I was trying to implement Thompson,” he said. “In one way or another, he found himself under Jimmy’s legs.”
