The draft of the NFL is finally (almost) here. This means the merciful end to months of coverage caused, where each possible scenario is speculated.
What has weight is the final prediction, not a possibility mentioned in “Mock Draft 7.0” in March. Two years ago, I identified the Deonte Banks corner half as the most likely choice at n ° 25. Last year, I hit the Large Malik Nabers recipient with the sixth choice.
So who will make the New York giants with the third choice this year? Let us go through a position of position elimination by position to access my prediction:
• Quarterback: The landing of a quarter of the future was the absolute priority of the offseason, as said by co-owner John Mara the day after the terrible 2024 season ended. The most direct path to win a quarter-de-franchise quarter is to take one with the third choice.
With the quarter of Miami, Cam Ward should be the first choice of titans, the giants are able to obtain QB n ° 2 in this class. This is widely considered to be Sanders Sanders from Colorado, which the giants spent an excessive time to assess.
The question to which the giants must answer is whether Sanders is worthy of choice n ° 3. The future of this regime is at stake with this decision.
• Running back: Allow me a moment to contemplate the reaction if the giants took Ashton Jeanty ball with the third choice after everything that took place with Saquon Barkley. This decision deserves another season of the difficult blows of the offseason. Alas, despite his prodigious talent, Jeanty can be excluded safely at n ° 3.
• Large receiver: The giants approached this position with their first choice last year. Nabers has already established itself as a legitimate n ° 1 receiver, so that the giants will not dive again as well – unless they consider Travis Hunter of Colorado mainly as a receiver.
• Tight end: Brock Bowers was a possible target in a trade scenario last year. Maybe the same could apply with Tyler Warren from Penn State this year. But an exchange from n ° 3 is unlikely, and there is no way that the giants take an end with the third choice.
• Offensive line: This is another position that could enter the equation with an exchange, but it is more likely to be treated day 2 of the project.
• Defensive line: Add this to the list of positions likely to be treated day 2.
• Outdoor Lancard: The giants have invested a lot in the outside secondary, with Kayvon Thibodeaux, the choice n ° 5 of the 2022 draft, and Brian Burns, who signed a contract of $ 141 million over five years last year. This position is therefore not a need. But adding elite players is a need, so the giants will not be able to transmit Abdul Carter de Penn State if it is available at No. 3.
Giants can understand how everyone will adapt later. Carter is a better perspective than Thibodeaux, so the giants should not transmit Carter because Thibodeaux is on the list. The giants only have to turn to their past to see the advantages of being filled with passers.
• Inner anecbacker: There are no interior second prospects worthy of choice n ° 3, but it is a sneaky place to expect the giants to go to the middle towers despite Bobby Okereke and McAh McFadden as starters for the third consecutive season.
• Cornerback: Hunter would be an easy choice if it was available. As with Carter, the giants could understand the division of labor at the cornerback later. Even with Banks and Paulson Adebo, the giants have no noise 1 proven. Hunter could fulfill this role, which would be invaluable.
Schoen said he was open to Hunter playing in both directions, but the Director General also made comments that recognized the challenges of this approach. It would be much more difficult for Hunter to play the full -time receiver and get sprinkled in defense, with complex cover responsibilities varying every week depending on the game. It is easier to design a package every week to obtain Hunter’s realization capacity on the field offensively.
• Security: There is no security worthy of choice n ° 3, and the giants have solidified the top of the depth table with the signature of Jevon Holland in the free agency.
Now that I have covered all the options, I reduced it to two possibilities:
• Take a quarter of a quarter: Sanders is the joker of the entire draft. It is impossible to ignore the time that the giants have devoted to identifying it. I cannot completely exclude Sanders at n ° 3, but no more signs indicate that the giants take a first-rate position player, then trying to find a quarter-Arrière (perhaps Sanders) later.
• Take the best non-QB available: It would be fascinating to know the player that the giants ranked above, Hunter or Carter. We will probably never know because the decision should be withdrawn by the Browns, which appear to make one of these stars with the second choice.
The giants should gladly take the one who remains. With the buzz that the Browns lean towards Hunter, this leaves Carter as my prediction for the choice of the Giants.
