There are some key differences between Harvey Weinstein’s first New York trial and this new trial.
With the two original accusers, Jessica Mann and Miriam Haley, the court will hear another alleged victim who has never been publicly identified.
She accuses Weinstein of having strengthened oral sex on her in a Manhattan hotel in 2006.
But other women, like the actor of Sopranos Mira Sorvino, will not testify this time. She was one of the so-called “molinine” witnesses who testified to the anterior “bad acts” in disgrace, but who was not appointed in the criminal accusations.
The Court of Appeal, which canceled its conviction for historic rape of 2020, noted that their testimony was poorly authorized and, consequently, Weinstein did not obtain a fair trial. The jury this time is a majority woman, but the defense seems more confident than five years ago.
Then, an amazing number of women accused Weinstein of harassment and sexual abuse, propelling the #MeToo movement. The demonstrators filled the streets outside the courthouse and its conviction was finally considered as a time of calculation and a watershed for a long time.
Since then, the #MeToo movement has faced setbacks.
Now we are waiting to see if this jury will reach the same conclusions as the first.
