Simone Biles remains undecided if her sparkling Olympic career filled with medals will have a last chapter in Los Angeles in 2028.
The American superstar won her ninth, 10th and 11th Olympic medals at the Paris Games last summer, categorically completing what she had described as “redemption tour” after the bottom of Tokyo.
There, in 2021, she withdrew from the team final because of a mental block that gymnasts call “the twists”, where competitors are disoriented and feel that they are lost in the air.
In Paris, Biles won gold medals in all anounds, teams and jumps – sealed with its signature Biles II, Yurchenko double Pike – as well as a silver on the ground.
May she come back to defend one of her titles remains in the air.
“I have accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, I would really have to get excited,” Biles told the French newspaper L’Equipe, in quotes carried by Reuters.
“You will tell me that the prospect of the games in Los Angeles is fascinating. And I will be there, whether on the device or in the stands, I still have not decided.”
The 11 bile Olympic medals are the most by an American gymnast. Only Larisa Latyina, a former Russian artistic gymnast, has more.
Biles admitted that her efforts last summer wreaked havoc on her body, which she will have to weigh when he decides to compete again in three years, when she was 31 years old.
“2028 seems so far away. And my body is aging. I felt it in Paris. At the end of the competition, I returned to the village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed-I fell ill for 10 days,” she added. “So, to be honest, I don’t know. We will see. “
The words of Biles came after she was appointed Sportswoman of the year to the Laureus World Sports Awards for the fourth time record, moving alongside the large part of the Serena Williams tennis.
Rebeca Andrade, competitor and friend of Biles, won the return prize for the year after returning from three injuries to the previous cross ligament (ACL) to win four medals, including gold, in Paris.
