Russia’s Easter carrier with Ukraine was a “charm operation” to call on US President Donald Trump, the first French diplomat said on Tuesday.
The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, told the broadcaster Franceinfo that the temporary ceasefire, that Russian president Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday-and that kyiv accused Moscow of breaking immediately and on several occasions-was only for appearances.
“The Easter break which he announced somewhat unexpectedly was a marketing operation, a charm operation aimed at preventing President Trump from becoming impatient and angry,” Barrot told Franceinfo.
While Trump’s pressure for a negotiated peace between Russia and Ukraine blocked, the American president has become more and more frustrated, going so far as to say that he is “pissed off” to Putin, while slamming the Ukrainian president Volodyr Zelenskyy.
Moscow rejected Ukraine’s proposal for a full cease-fire, publishing a long list of delayed questions and conditions, and has repeatedly raped a agreed pact so as not to hit the infrastructure of Ukraine for 30 days.
