Sarah secretly works for 12 hours out of two jobs, and even if it leaves little time, she said it was a valid effort.
“I want to go out until my retirement,” said Sarah, whose identity was verified by Business Insider but who asked to use a pseudonym, citing fears of professional repercussions.
So far, the strategy has borne fruit: Sarah has worked two computer jobs at a distance simultaneously until December, when it was dismissed. She said she was relieved to have the second income.
“It really gave me a feeling of security, knowing that I had another job,” said Sarah.
In February, Sarah won a second full -time computer work full -time and was on the right track to gain $ 300,000 this year in her jobs. In the past four years, Sarah has said that the additional job of the job juggling has saved her more than $ 100,000 in her 401 (K) S, pay $ 17,000 in credit card debt and provide her with a house. She said that these advantages compensate for the disadvantages of the juggling, especially that she has less time and energy for her family and her hobbies.
Sarah, who is around fifty and lives in the Southeast, is one of some of the Americans who have secretly juggled on several distant roles to increase their income. In the past two years, BI has interviewed more than two dozen “over -off” workers who have used their additional money to travel the world, buy expensive weight loss drugs and reimburse their student debt.
Admittedly, occupying several jobs without approval of the employer could have professional repercussions and lead to professional exhaustion. However, most of the job jugglers told Bi that financial advantages have generally prevailed over the disadvantages and risks.
Limit professional day -to -day exhaustion of 12 hours
Sarah said that juggling employment requires long hours, but she understood how to make it work.
She works for oriental hours for a job, and as she lives in the same time zone, she works from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. he.
“There is a level of stress because I am connected from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” she said, adding that she sometimes had working calls until 7:30 p.m..
However, Sarah said the calendar was working in her favor. She does not have to think of her work on the west coast before noon and can focus only on her after having dissected her work on the east coast around 5 p.m., she said that the most demanding section was between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., when the two jobs are occupied.
To avoid professional exhaustion, Sarah said that she was traveling with her family when she can, watch her favorite television shows and rewards for her hard work. Sometimes it means follies On clothes, shoes, special dinners or spa days.
“Having something to hope is a great motivation,” she said.
However, she tries to stay realistic: working 12 hours means abandoning time she could otherwise spend with her family or her hobbies.
Mandates returning to the office did not prevent his work from juggling
In December 2020, Sarah worked remotely when a head hunter contacted a full -time contract job that paid about $ 30,000 more than the position she held. The work was distant at the time due to the pandemic, but it was based in another state and could possibly require office work. When Sarah said that she would not be willing to move, the head hunter told her that she could accept the work – then stop if the work of the office became compulsory.
Later this month, Sarah accepted the job offer and, in January 2021, began to juggle two roles for the first time. She worked on both jobs last December.
Sarah said that the employer of her employment job had implemented a return policy in the past year, but because her contract specifies remote work, she was not assigned. However, her contract is in place for her annual reassessment this summer, but she hopes that she will be authorized to continue working remotely.
“It is necessary to have me there,” she said, adding, “I told them that if I had to enter, I would probably leave.”
For the future, Sarah said she was planning to continue to judge in the foreseeable future. If she leaves her role as a contract, She is convinced that she will be able to win a distant new job.
Although her workload can sometimes be difficult to manage, she said she preferred to work on occasional weekend rather than abandoning one of her concerts.
“I will do what I need to do to do the work,” she said.
