While the Vikings start their off-season program this week, they are now positioning the choice of first round in 2024 JJ McCarthy to start the season as a leaving quarter.
McCarthy said he had been awarded from the knee injury that kept him away for his recruit season. Head coach Kevin O’Connell reiterated that on Monday, telling journalists at his press conference that he did not anticipate any limitation for McCarthy in the spring.
O’Connell also congratulated McCarthy for the work he did to put himself in a strong position at this stage of the year.
“”He still works“Said O’Connell.” I think spring is perfectly installed for JJ with where it is from the point of view of the phase, I am really in a class, racing and lifting room, and to continue what he could do. Many of his teammates have not been here, now the group returns, he continues this, and ends up putting himself on the field and we can start throwing and catching a little before finalizing these two to three weeks of OTA and mini -camp where you get a little of this feeling of competition – leading the group, leading the show.
“So all of this will be systematically planned for him. And I think he is ready to attack him.”
Physically, O’Connell noted that McCarthy had been able to perform different types of throws that are important in the offense when he suffered his rehabilitation. The Quarterrière has also gathered for several days to throw high volume.
“Now it’s just a question to apply it with teammates and with details,” said O’Connell. “And with rehearsal to try to apply these representatives so that we can start to project what not only can he continue to improve, what are the areas to concentrate to us?” How can we develop this offense to make sure that we do the things he does naturally while challenging it to develop this inventory pot that we can ultimately draw. ”
This is why although development is important, it is not the only thing on which O’Connell is focused for McCarthy.
“Now it becomes one day more tangible and more tangible,” said O’Connell. “We can create a world here where it might not look like a checkpoint, it might not look like another step in the process, but you stack so many days and time with its teammates together, and just growth through the installations and how these quarter-arre with these installations and its absorption of what we do. Many very high quality skills players with whom JJ have already worked in the past and thrown away and has taken before.
“So it will be a question of what X and OS look like when there are no competitive games?” What do fundamentals and technique look like when we really try to cause growth? I want to credit JJ for the way he managed these last two, two and a half, about three months when I think he is ready to hit the ground from today. »»
