vice-president Jd vance recall Pope FrancisOne day after their Easter meeting.
After the death of the pontiff (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio) April 21, Vance detailed his experience with the Catholic leader.
“My heart goes to millions of Christians from around the world who loved him,” wrote Vance on X, formerly Twitter. “I was happy to see him yesterday, even if he was obviously very sick.”
The 40-year-old continued: “I will always remember him for the homily below that he gave the very first days of Covid. It was really very beautiful. May God rest His soul. “
The vice-president included a link to the referenced homily, which Francis shared on March 27, 2020, addressing the first days of the locking of the COVVI-19 pandemic and isolation at home.
“For weeks, it has been in the evening. The thick darkness has gathered on our squares, our streets and our cities,” wrote the Pope. “We are afraid and lost.”
