The Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum seemed to harm his right wrist during their 103-86 victory in match 1 of their first round series against Orlando Magic on Sunday afternoon, but he did not seem particularly concerned afterwards.
“Everything is fine,” Tatum told journalists. “I just came across it, I landed on it.”
Tatum’s wrist “launched a second,” he said, but “it has somehow disappeared”. He said that he had obtained an x -ray after the match and returned “clean”.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Tatum used an Al Horford screen out of the ball to obtain space and took a pass from Jrue Holiday which led him directly to the basket. While Tatum argued, he was met in the air by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Wendell Carter Jr. The magic duo sent him crashing on the ground, and he clumsily landed on his right wrist.
The initial fault was called on Caldwell-Pope. He was upgraded to a blatant after a long review.
“Pope’s illegal contact, then the follow -up that followed a player in the air and vulnerable, with injury potential, is upgraded to an incorrect flagrant penalty 1,” said team leader Zach Zarba during the broadcast.
Tatum stayed in the game, although he missed the two free throws that followed. He succeeded in the wrist and actually had some of his best scores of the day after the frightening fall, but seemed to favor the wrist as the fourth quarter progressed. He finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, but only drew 8 out of 22 on the ground.
When Tatum was checked, he kept his right hand by his side and used his left hand for more than five teammates. In the last seconds, the show showed him enter his wrist and bend him while he was sitting on the bench.
The series continues with match 2 Wednesday. Judging by his comments, Tatum will be available.
