For the second consecutive night, Byu overcome Pepperdine at the Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday, eliminating the waves 3-1 the senior evening.
The cougars won scores of 25-19, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-17. Byu was ready to compete at the start of the match, resembling the best team throughout the night.
“Credit to our passers -by,” said cougars coach Shawn Olmstead. “(Our) passers -by did an excellent job and our strikers have done very good swings.”

The Olmstead team had a lot to play for Saturday. By entering this weekend games, Byu and Pepperdine had exchanged places in the national ranking, the cougars falling in the eighth while their colleague MPSF went to the seventh.
Byu proved that the classification was false, winning the two games to give the cougars a third place probably in the MPSF, which should place them just before the waves, which end their season with an identical league record.
The MPSF ranking remains in the air, with a new process to decide how things shake.
“The MPSF is … vote (in the classification),” said Olmstead. “I have to vote tonight. … We have to be (third). I expect that. I told guys, but it’s out of our control. ”

Byu checked the evening, no doubt winning his best victories of the season this weekend. While the national ranking is currently presenting, Pepperdine is the best classified team that the cougars have beaten this year, which makes the senior evening even even softer.
Byu led the entire initial set on Saturday, powered by a burning punch percentage of 0.619 with a single attack error. The cougars were led by the senior external striker Luke Benson, who had a percentage of perfect strike in the first set, obtaining a comfortable victory.
“(The Junior Sector Tyler Herget) has done a very good follow -up work … Some models that we saw with them on the defense,” said Olmstead when he questioned the impressive start of his team.
“He put the right guys at the right time and I think that through two sets, we (we’re hitting) up there.”
The cougars continued to hit well in the second set (.423). However, he was slightly closer than the previous whole, Pepperdine taking his first lead from the match from the start.
A few moments later, however, a race of 5-0 byu punctuated by a trio of service ace of the Senior Miks Ramanis external striker took the wind of the sails of the waves and helped the couguars forward the rest of the whole.
Olmstead was amazed by Ramanis’ performance, which continues to play several injuries.
“I knew Miks would give his heart,” said Olmstead. “He doesn’t have the body (right now, but) he might have been our best player tonight.”
Despite the performances inspired by cougars, Pepperdine has found a new life in the third set, escaping byu by the thinnest margins to force a fourth.
After 14 links and a successful challenge of the coach on the final point, the waves exceeded the cougars for the first and the only time of the evening.
Byu has finished things in the fourth set, with another comfortable victory. Again directed by Ramanis on the service line, the cougars made a race that has everything except Pepperdine.
Not even a time dead to regroup could stop the bleeding of the waves, who watched helplessly by scoring seven consecutive points to move forward 23-13 on the match to win the victory.
The victory marked the end of the regular season of Byu, with the MPSF tournament from next Tuesday. Although the school does not know its final seed before Sunday, it will probably start the tournament on Thursday.
